With The Impacter Flow
How can you set your life up for success year after year? This is the Impacter Flow. And In the realm of personal growth and entrepreneurship, what’s the cornerstone that can be the difference between a life of mediocrity and of life of excellence? A SYSTEM FOR SETTING AND ACHIEVING GOALS both in your personal and professional life.
Ask any successful man or woman, anyone who's achieved true personal growth and success, and they'll tell you: it all begins with a system that helps them set goals and achieve them.
By the end of this post you will have a framework, a system, and even a work book you can use every single year that helps you design a life, set your goals, and map out your years, months, and days for success so you can continually create a life you love. It is my process that has taken me from a failed business and homelessness to now owning a thriving business and living a life I love, , all thanks to effective goal-setting strategies.
Why is goal setting so important? How can it fuel your journey of personal growth and entrepreneurship? How can it help you manifest the dream life you want?
Much like a ship needs a compass, our subconscious minds require direction. And the key to that? It’s more than just setting goals; it's setting up a system, new habits, and routines that allow you to achieve your goals and program your mind to keep going in the right direction.
The Impacter flow is designed to give you a system to build new habits and routines that will avoid burnout while still amplifying your productivity, enjoying life, and still reaching toward your true vision of success. It puts your priorities strait to minimize anxiety, avoid dreadful burnout, and increase your productivity and accomplishment.
Let’s dive in.
This process has evolved over time and what I want to share with you today is the current version of The Impacter Flow. I have pulled aspects and frameworks from multiple sources of information and put it all together to make one Flow. This is what works for me. This will help you set goals and works toward them on a daily basis.
Here is the overview:
3 Year Vision
Word Of The Year
The Year
The Quarter (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4)
The Day
The Rhythm of Life
The 30 Day Sprint
The three year vision is what you want your life to look like in the next three years. Picture yourself three years from now. What does your life look like? Set goals for life and goals for work. Get specific yet leave room for change and growth.
I map it out from a Being, Doing, Having framework - Who do I want to be(come)? What do I want to be doing? What do I want to have? Also, by taking the time to think about what you want in life, you can create a three-year vision that gives you a sense of purpose and direction. Having this long-term goal can help you move from just dreaming to actually doing and make the right moves financially now to support these goals in the future.
Ex.
BEING
New career? New position?
DOING
Airbnb Adventure Once A Month -$600
HAVING
A house in Las Vegas with a pool - $3000 p/m
Map out 3-4 in each section making them big and broad that can keep you focused on the direction you want to take life. Once you see this 3-year vision, we can begin to reverse engineer the choices and goals to get there.
Come up with a word that sets the tone for the year. I usually pray about my WOTY months before it is December and see what beings to pop up. I then usually start seeing the word every where and it comes up in conversations. That’s how I know that’s the word for the year.
Ex. My last WOTYs
2019 - Release
2020 - Planted
2021 - Rooted
2022 - Rhythm
2023 - Rise
This is where I set goals for the year. I write 5-7 goals for work (business/professional) and 5-7 goals for life (personal) that I want to achieve during the year that are in alignment with the 3-year vision.
Only do 5-7 because you don’t want to have too many and not achieve them. Plus you need to use a super power - FOCUS. Hitting goals builds momentum and having 5-7 BIG goals for the year allows you to focus!
If you look at your three year vision, this is where you can start asking yourself questions, “How can I achieve that vision?” “What changes do I have to make?” “How can I break the 3-year vision down into yearly goals?”
You’ll notice we are tracking financial measurables as well. Setting financial goals sets you up for life and allows you to break them down into months in order to achieve the yearly goals that are in alignment with the three-year vision.
If your striving to really build up some wealth, what you are currently doing now won’t necessarily always get you there. You may have to change things up in order to make those strides in the long run. For example, if I wanted to 500X my net worth in the next three years - thinking in terms of picking up another job or working longer hours is not going to make that happen. Investing, buy/building business, and selling is going to get me there. Before you head back to the office in January, outline a rough budget that works for you — and make a plan for how you'll stick to it in the long run. Understanding how to design your life and set the best goals for the year is crucial for long term success.
You begin to play a different game, ask bigger questions, set goals and achieve them.
I have started to track inputs and output to see what inputs can 10X-100X my outputs. Financial example, if I want to increase my income, working 15 hours instead of 8 won’t always do the trick to reach your goals. Because you’ll eventually burn out (I’ve tried) You need to find more effective INPUTS in order to truly scale up your life and experience bigger OUTPUTS. I’m still working on this too.
This is where we take our yearly goals and begin to break them out into Quarterly rocks by a Quarter basis.
Remember, it is the little things we start doing that help us achieve the big things. The compound effect is the most powerful force that we might as well set in our favor because time compounds everything, positive or negative.
When planning out your year, give a theme to each quarter. I usually stay in alignment with the 4 key aspects and look at these through a more macro viewpoint (zooming out). Being, Body, Business, Balance.
Whatever your theme is for that quarter - that is your #1 priority of focus. Yes, your day will still continue to include all 4 but your main focus is your quarter’s theme.
For example, if Q1 theme is Being, everything I do revolves around me pushing myself to grow. 80% of my goals this quarter relate to the theme of personal development. Everything I read, listen to, engage with relates to helping evolve into a new version of myself. I spend a lot more time reflecting, meditating, looking inward and looking at the relationship with myself. If I can I schedule some sort of retreat or event that can help me shift internally I do it. I am also a proponent of going through a psychedelic experience as that is one of the most profound shifts I have experienced in this process and try the schedule that at least once a year.
The best thing about Quarters is that you have the ability to change your daily schedule every three months. If this quarter your theme is Body and you schedule and commit to yourself to go to the gym at 6am everyday that means the next quarter when the theme changes to Being you can change your gym time to later in the day while you prioritize your Being time at 6am. You stick with your schedule until the 3 months is done. You evaluate, reflect, and optimize what worked and what didn't for both your physical wellness and performance at work, and then move on to the next quarter. Make sense?
You’ll eventually find a flow that works but there is also power in changing up the flow so you don’t get so engraved and hardened into an unsustainable schedule. This small change every 3 months, also known as the quarters, allows you to step back and make changes through a top down processing system. You think first, then do (which is hard) instead of doing first, then thinking (which is easy and habitual). This also helps prevent procrastination by regularly checking in and making adjustments to your goals, such as setting aside time to write a blog post a week.
You must not be attached to anything but you must be disciplined to achieve everything.
Side note - for the Quarter where Body is the theme I do no alcohol, no cheat meals. This builds a discipline like no other and you feel amazing. You got it, it’s only 3 months.
If you can conquer your day while making. the small changes needed, you can significantly change the direction and outcome of your life.
Until you can change one thing about your day, you’ll experience the same results you have always experienced.
The day is filled by your routine and your habits. These are most important aspect of achieving anything & everything. The law of sensitive dependence on initial conditions states that a slight variation now over time can produce a major change in outcome.
The opportunity you have to change that slight variation in your initial condition lies in your daily activities. This is where we zoom in and examen all 24 hours of your day.
There are four aspects I look both macro and mirco viewpoints, Being, Body, Business, Balance. The day looks through these aspects at a micro viewpoint.
Being - Did I spend time meditating? Reflecting? Learning? Did I have me time?
Body - Did I sweat today? Did I do something today that is healthy for the body? Learn? Did I eat healthy?
Business - Did I put effort into my business/career today to grow, to maintain? Learn?
Balance - Did I spend time today with my partner? Friends? Kids? Family? Was I present? Learn? Did I serve someone today? Did I do something I love to do (hobby)?
Analyzing these components of your day allows you to craft what I call A Beautiful Day and create a life you ultimately love. This also allows you to take care of what I believe are the most important things in your life and put energy towards them daily.
First - Analyze your day hour by hour. Write out the individual activities you are doing that fall under each aspect. If you find one aspect that doesn’t have anything, this is an area of your life you are probably experiencing some sort of pain (emotional, physical, psychological) because you are neglecting it.
Second - Now write out all the different types of activities that can fall under each aspect. Activities that you are already doing and activities you have wanted to start doing. If you want to eliminate some activities, write them down, cross them out and replace them with an action plan for a different activity.
Now that you have your Quarterly rocks and measurables, craft your perfect day and “daily schedule”
This is where we take our activities from our day and schedule them with our monthly theme being the priority. Don’t get too crazy just yet with changes and trying to add a completely new schedule, start small, build habit, then compound by adding the next thing.
Your mind will fight you. Because your mind likes comfort. It likes ease. It likes certainty. The brain is wired to evaluate a path, duration, outcome sequence and then work to make this sequence as easy as possible (like a habit) once it builds this habit it likes to stay that way.
If you are able to build these healthy path, duration, outcome sequences (habits) from the beginning you will find yourself improving (optimizing) more efficiently and minimizing negative experiences.
If your daily schedule gets thrown out of wack because of well LIFE - don’t be discouraged. Get back in alignment, back on schedule and keep going. Give yourself grace but also demand greatness for yourself.
Having them in your schedule makes them a priority. Yes, scheduled in your calendar with reminders. A schedule is KEY. I live and die by my schedule and builds great structure, habits, focus, and discipline.
I have found a Rhythm. This was actually my 2022 Word of the Year.
It's a flow that isn’t perfect but it keeps you down a path to creating the live you love striving to hit your goals and achieve your vision.
What keeps this Rhythm going efficiently are MEETINGS. Weekly, Monthly, Quarter, and Yearly. These are ALL scheduled in my calendar.
Weekly Meeting - Have a meeting with yourself every week to reflect on the previous week, look at your goals, and plan your next week. Also review all your finances and budgets this day. I do my meeting every Sunday first thing in the morning @ 7:30 am.
Monthly Meeting - I look at the month ahead, plan any big events that I want to do. I wrap up my finances & budgets for the month, plan next month, and review cash flow and my personal P&L (profit and loss). I review the Quarterly Rocks and make sure I have big tasks planned out to complete the following month. I do my Monthly meeting on the last Sunday of the month @ 9 am.
Quarterly Meeting - I reflect and review the previous quarter. I rebuild my daily schedule. I order any new books that fit with the theme for that quarter. And of course look at and review my financials (investments, budgets, profit and loss). I have this meeting on the last Sunday of the quarter and blends nicely with my monthly and weekly review.
Yearly Meeting - I plan a 2/3 day retreat. (usually down on the Las Vegas Strip because the energy there is crazy but you can do it anywhere as long as it is away from your house). I plan out my next year by going through this Impacter Flow. I have my fiancé join me on the last day and we plan out what we want our year to look like together, including a road trip or a DIY project to create lasting memories. If the end of the year is an end of a 3-year phase (which this year is for me) I also reflect on the past three years, see where I am at compared with that vision and then write out the new 3-Year Vision for myself and as a family with my fiancé.
When is the best day to start? Yesterday.
Second best time? Today.
When does the rocket ship need the most power and resources to get to the next level? During take-off.
For the next 30 days commit to filling out this Impacter Flow. Get ready for the new year.
Pick ONE thing you can commit to these next 30 days and stick with it.
Commit and see what kind of results you get at the end of the 30 days.
Building this momentum and power can carry you into the new year at a new level, a new height.
The brain releases healthy dopamine when you are consistently having little victories day after day as your pursue something you want in life.
You can have all this planned out but you still need to do one thing - BECOME. Become the person you must become in order for you to continually grow and reach new heights.
I truly hope The Impacter Flow can start or continue a process for you to continually take your life higher, create a life you love, and reach new heights.
NewHeidts is just a reflection of me. I live NewHeidts. I live The Impacter Flow. I do this ALL! And I have experienced the results - so I know it works.
